Thur Sept 4 Today we will board our plane in Nashville for overnight flights to Edinburgh with a short layover in Dublin, Ireland. Dinner will be served and then you will need to get some sleep as we fly over the Atlantic. Light breakfast sandwiches will be served just before landing. Unlimited, complimentary tea, coffee, water, juice and soft drinks will be available.
Fri Sept 5 Upon arriving in Scotland, we will meet our luxury coach driver and our guide who will wax eloquent in his lovely Scottish accent and begin to immerse us into the Reformation history that has influenced our faith today! Our first stop will be St.
Andrews - the medieval ecclesiastical capital of Scotland and where George Wishart was burned at the stake. Our lovely
hotel this evening will be in Dundee, known as teh "Geneva of Scotland". We will gather for our welcome dinner and then
retire for a good night's sleep.
Sat Sept 6 Each morning you will enjoy a delicious, traditional breakfast to energize you for our travels. Our journey up into the
highlands of Scotland continues today as we head to the Culloden Battlefield Visitor Centre to learn about the
significance of the Jacobite Uprising. This afternoon we will take a cruise on Loch Ness and disembark on the shore at Urquhart Castle. This evening we will settle into the Palace Hotel for 2 nights in the heart of Inverness, considered to be the capital of the highlands and enjoy a group dinner.
Sun Sept 7 This Sunday you will be free to attend church, rest and fellowship with believers at the Free North Church just across the river from our hotel. The walking path along the River Ness is a spectacular trail and worthy of a Sunday afternoon stroll. You will be on your own for lunch and dinner and morning and evening church services.
Mon Sept 8 No trip in the highlands would be complete without a drive through the breathtaking Glencoe. On our way down along the shores of Loch Ness we will stop for photos, lunch (on your own) and a look at the Kelpies - the largest equine sculptures in the world soaring 90 ft into the air. This evening we settle into our city center hotel in the old town in Edinburgh - just steps off the Royal Mile and within easy waling distance of restaurants, pubs, shops, museums and churches. This will be our home for the next three nights as we explore this incredible, medieval town where John Knox lived and preached.
Tues Sept 9 This morning we will immerse ourselves in Edinburgh life in the 16th century as we visit The Real Mary King's Close. This
is the way common folks lived during the time of John Knox and Mary Queen of Scots while the battles over faith raged.
Across the street we will visit St. Giles Cathedral where John Knox preached and visit the house he lived in. There will be
an optional trip to Stirling Castle - where Mary Queen of Scots lived as a child and where her son, James the VI was baptized.
Wed Sept 10 Our royal journey continues today as we visit the crowning jewel of Scotland, Edinburgh Castle, where James VI was born.
You will have time to explore the Royal Mile before we take a self-guided tour of Holyroodhouse Palace - the home of Mary
Queen of Scots. We will stand in the very room where she took audience with John Knox.
Thurs Sept 11 Today we pack up and head to Glasgow, the modern city that was originally founded by St. Mungo in the year 550 AD. We
will visit the Cathedral originally built in the 1100s and the church below, built in the 1200s to house the tomb of St. Mungo.
If you are up for a hike, you may explore the hauntingly beautiful Necropolis - the Victorian Cemetery with over 50,000 graves and a massive memorial to John Knox. Our hotel tonight is Hotel Indigo with modern conveniences in a historic
building in the city center. We will enjoy a group dinner before you have time to explore the city and hear some traditional
music.
Fri Sept 12 This morning after breakfast, we will drive down through the Scottish countryside and along the coast to the Cairnryan shipping port and board our ferry to cross the Irish Sea to Belfast, Northern Ireland. We will take a panoramic tour of the
city to see the Peace Wall and the murals depicting tghe political climate before driving down to Dublin - the capital of the Republic of Ireland. We will check into our lovely, downtown hotel and give you time to get our and enjoy a bit of the city,
shop and get dinner on your own.
Sat Sept 13 Our adventure in Dublin today will take us to Marsh's Library, founded in 1707 and housing some of the earliest printed
Bibles in the world. You can even be locked in a casge with a book as was gthe custom in the 18th century. We will visit the
Chester Beatty Library which is a museum that houses over 300 fragments of papyrus Biblical tests. We will visit Christchurch
Cathedral and Trinity Library to see the Book of Kells - a hand illuminated version of the Gospels written and illustrated by
monks on the Isle of Iona in Scotland in the 800s. Tonight we will have our farewell dinner together. (B, D)
Sun Sept 14 This morning, we will pack up and get ready to fly home from Dublin. On the way to the airport we will stop for the morning church service at St. Patrick's Cathedral. At the airport we will go through Irish security and US Preclearance before our 2:00 pm flight, so we won't have to go through customs when we arrive in Nashville. We will enjoy a nonstop
flight to BNA on Aer Lingus.
