Sun 4/18 - Fly overnight from Nashville to Dublin with dinner and light breakfast service.
Mon 4/19 - Arrive in Dublin this morning where you will be met by your Enrichment Travel Services guide who will lead you to a luxury coach and you will meet your Irish driver/guide for the week. We will start the day with a self-guided tour of Ireland’s #1 tourist attraction - Guinness Storehouse. Enjoy learning the story of the dark stuff, have a delicious lunch, shop for authentic Guinness merchandise and make your way to the top floor for the best pint of Guinness anywhere in the world. This afternoon we will take a panoramic tour of Ireland’s capital giving you a broad overview of the city’s history and architecture including the GPO, Dublin Castle, St. Patrick’s and Christchurch Cathedrals and Temple Bar. We will gather in our lovely hotel for our welcome dinner and then the night is yours to get to bed early or explore the nightlife of Ireland’s capital city. (D)
Tue 4/20 - You should awake rested and ready for your hearty Irish breakfast (daily). Today we will spend the morning at EPIC - the Irish Emigration Museum. Inside you will find galleries exploring the journeys of Irish emigrants who left their homeland and left their mark on the world. You may also set up an appointment with the Irish Family Research Centre for a one-on-one consultation for your own custom genealogy research. Get lunch on your own in one of the cafés inside or nearby EPIC. This afternoon we will give you some leisure time on your own for genealogy research or to enjoy Dublin’s museums, parks, libraries or shop on Grafton Street, the city’s iconic shopping district. You’ll be on your own or dinner this evening. You may choose a nice restaurant or a pub with a lively traditional Irish music session. (B)
Wed 4/21 - Pack your bags this morning as we head north after breakfast. Our first stop will be Malahide Castle. We will tour the castle and give you some free time to enjoy the grounds and gardens. Next we will stop at Newgrange where we will enter
Neolithic passage tombs dating back over 5,000 years making them older than Stonehenge and the Great Pyramids of Giza. We will continue to make our way up to Northern Ireland and the great city of Belfast - Nashville’s Sister City. We will settle into our city center hotel and give you some time to explore. Don’t miss the Crown Bar (also known as the Crown Liquor Saloon) - will you step on the crown in the doorway or over it? We will gather for a group dinner in our hotel this evening. (B,D)
Thu 4/22 - Today is Andrew Jackson day!!! We will start in Carrickfergus at the Andrew Jackson Cottage and US Rangers Museum where we’ll have a guided tour. You can’t visit Carrickfergus without exploring the legendary Norman castle. We’ll
give you time to wander around this charming seaside town and get some lunch. We will continue up to the Antrim coast to the breathtaking Giant’s Causeway. Created by volcanic activity, these 40,000 basalt columns rise out of the sea and cause many to wonder if the legends of Finn MacCool are true. On our way back, we will stop at the lovely Belfast Castle for dinner together and time to walk around the gardens and even up Cave Hill for a breathtaking view of Belfast. (B,D)
Fri 4/23 - Ready for more genealogy? Today we will meet with the Ulster Historical Foundation to explore more about our heritage. This organization is one of the principal genealogical research agencies in Ireland. We will have a workshop as a group and then you may have some individual time with a professional genealogist to research your own family history. This afternoon, we will engage with a different history. Set in the exact location where the Ship of Dreams was built, Titanic Museum will take you on a journey to explore the building of this magnificent ocean liner, the culture of the day and the events leading up to its tragic sinking. You will have the evening to relax or take in the vibrant nightlife of Belfast. (B)
Sat 4/24 - For our final day in Northern Ireland, we will learn about the patron saint of Ireland, Saint Patrick himself. We’ll start the day in Downpatrick at the Saint
Patrick Centre in the very town where he built his first church and is buried. When we make our way back to Belfast, we’ll have a guided tour of the lovely Belfast City Hall and perhaps have tea with the Lord Mayor in his (or her) parlor.
Shop with the locals at the St. George’s Market named the UK’s Best Large
Indoor Market by the National Association of British Market Authorities. Enjoy the best tastes and smells brought by local producers, as well as a fusing of tempting continental and specialty foods from around the world. This evening we will try to catch a show (TBD) at one of the iconic venues in this UNESCO City of Music. (B)
Sun 4/25 -
After a leisurely breakfast, we will take a tour of the world-renowned murals scattered around Belfast. These artworks range from historically charged political statements to contemporary celebrations of local culture and global solidarity. We will stop by the Peace Wall where you may want to sign your name and write messages of peace on our way out of town as we head back to Dublin. We will give you some time on your own to explore the city, visit the cathedrals or one of Dublin’s many museums. We will have our farewell
dinner together and a last opportunity to enjoy Dublin’s nightlife from our downtown hotel just steps from St. Stephen’s Green and Grafton Street. (B, D)
